Loquat on AMAZON.COM’s 2012 “Outstanding Albums You May Have Missed” list

"Electronic blips and keyboards give tracks like 'Rumbling' and 'The Legion' a soulful, steady pulse, while 'Seeds' evokes the more straightforward, jamgly guitar-driven sound of Bettie Seveert.... Evocative."—Magnet

"The new Loquat album packs several festival-ready moments, including the jaunty title track and stargazing single "Time Bending." —San Francisco Chronicle

"Loquat's ‘We Could Be Arsonists’ could very well be the summer album you've always dreamed of. The melodies and hooks galore will steal your heart, and singer Kylee Swenson possesses the kind of fog-lifting lilt that'll make you wanna put the top down and go cruising down the 101 with a beatific grin."  —KXT 91.7 (Dallas)

"Vocalist Kylee Swenson Gordon leads this San Francisco quintet through 10 tracks with aplomb, understatement, and a coolness that’s so cool it’s hard to believe…. They could be also be stars." —PopMatters

"We Could Be Arsonists is a must-listen and Loquat could be on its way to stardom real soon. The Bay Area band delivers a sound that’s lush and bursting with vibrant imagery yet is still intimate, quiet and personal."—Pop-Break

"We Could Become Arsonists benefits from a wide-screen polish, big sounds that seem destined for an arena near you. Loquat have big adventures in store for them, and 'We Could Be Arsonists' is pointing the way forwards."—SSG

PAST PRESS: "Don't look now, but 'Secrets of the Sea' just might bridge the gap between generational record collections. A.V. Club Rating: A-"—The Onion

"Sugary, sultry vocals from Kylee Swenson were wrapped around bouncy basslines and shimmering guitars, a bit like Rilo Kiley at the more melodic, singalong points or Cat Power in a few soaring, emotion-soaked moments." —Spin.com

"In a genre marred by overproduction and, sometimes, a lack of imagination, Loquat is not only wonderfully organic but refreshingly inventive." —Nylon

"Swenson's voice soars like Sarah McLachlan, but her lyrics cut like Cat Power." —URB

"Sometimes it's nice to just press play and daydream while the world crashes around you. Loquat is very helpful that way." —Wired

Track Name: Time Bending
Can’t see it midday. It all comes at night. If you’re lucky to see it—all the glittering light—you’ll know there’s something else to it. There are millions more, not just gas and core. It’s the distance from suns, and there’s more than just one. There’s so many of them, and they’re so far away. We can’t bend time to get there, and can barely even see. The pictures they take give us clues, yet each one is from the past. I don’t know my purpose in this, but it’s obvious it’s minuscule at best. Other oceans in space, busy with life: They are parallel places, unreachable sights. It’s strange, but there’s something else to it. There are millions more, not just gas and core. There’s so many of them, and they’re so far away. We can’t bend time to get there, and can barely even see. The pictures they take give us clues, yet each one is from the past. I don’t know my purpose in this, but it’s obvious it’s minuscule at best. You see the lights ahead, as they’re flying in?
Will they find us first, or will we find them? If we could make the trip, it’d be a giant risk. What if we never find our way back to our little atmosphere again? There’s so many of them, and they’re so far away. We can’t bend time to get there, and can barely even see. The pictures they take give us clues, yet each one is from the past. I don’t know my purpose in this, but it’s obvious it’s minuscule at best.
Track Name: We Could Be Arsonists
It’s wind over wind, and it’s cold upon dark. But outside the door, the weather is clear and unfailing. None of us really need the medication. I don’t want any other revelations. But we have to stay awake because the stakes are high. We have to stay awake because the stakes are high. We could be arsonists with the impetus.
We could be infamous if it were effortless. We could be mobsters if we were in the family. We could be crime lords if we got out of bed today. Mechanical walls are squeezing us in. But outside the room, the space goes on forever. None of us really need the medication. I don’t want any other revelations. So we have to make our escape because the stakes are high. We have to make our escape because the stakes are high. We could be arsonists with the impetus. We could be infamous if it were effortless. We could be mobsters if we were in the family. We could be crime lords if we got out of bed today. Can’t you get up, get up with me? Strike a match and start it slowly. Watch the fire spread swiftly everywhere we look.
Track Name: Rumbling
Oh ticking time… they know that there’s trouble in line. Not much to do but look at their shoes and wait for the moment of nothing or crime. Until then it's a rumbling train with conversation strained in a heavy rain. Until then, it's a hundred thoughts bottlenecked at the cross. Oh ticking time… fanatic beliefs kill a man in his prime. Left on the floor, so they know what's in store. All they can see are the ominous signs. Until then it's a rumbling train with conversation strained in a heavy rain. Until then, it's a hundred thoughts bottlenecked at the cross. Soon, they'll know it soon. Keep hope in the room. Until then it's a rumbling train with conversation strained in a heavy rain. Until then, it's a hundred thoughts bottlenecked at the cross.
